Yogurt recipes. 2 vintage cookbooks from a WWII fighter pilot, and a model
|Online Auction Description|
Two vintage cookbooks show you how to prepare delicious, nutritious dishes with an international flavor with yogurt as an important ingredient. There are a few tricks!
1. Irfan Orga. Cooking with Yogurt, 1st edition (1956), hardcover, dust jacket
Irfan Orga wrote one of the first yogurt cookbooks. It was published by Andre Deutsch, 1956. This is the first edition, hardcover with dust jacket (design by Heather Standring)
Cover states it is part of The Citadel Cook Book Series
5âx7.5â a small hardback with a pleasing layout
120 pages, including index. Excellent condition. Dust jacket has small piece missing from top of spine and some minor rubbing.
The author was a Turkish fighter pilot who had to flee his country to marry the woman he loved. He lived in England until his death in 1970. He published several books about Turkey. When âCooking With Yogurtâ came out in England in 1957, it was especially welcome because yogurt was just becoming popular and cooks wanted to know how to use it.
2. Sonia Uvezian. The Book of Yogurt, 1978 1st edition from 101 Productions
The first edition (1978) of Sonia Uvezian's first international collection of yogurt recipes has long been out of print. About 20 years later it was re-issued by HarperCollins. This copy is one of the original edition. This author published three earlier cookbooks.
Drawings are by Karen Okasaki Sasaki, with Introduction by David Kaiserman
Large paperback, 8âx 8â 168 pages, including index. ISBN 0-89286-135-5
Pages are unmarked, no writing, smudges, etc. The cover is beginning to pull away from the pages with slight rubbing along the edges.
Ms Uvezian was a New York fashion model who counted on yogurt to help her meet the strict requirements for her work. Weight gain was disastrous, so models found ways to keep in shape and still eat delicious food.
