Dorothy Livesay (1909 - 1996) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She won the Governor General`s Award twice, in 1944 for 'Day and Night', and again in 1947 for 'People'.
Al Purdy (1918 - 2000) was born in 1918, in Wooler, Ontario. He won the Governor General's Awards twice, in 1965 for 'The Cariboo Horsesin' and again in 1986 for 'The Collected Poems of Al Purdy, 1956-1986'.
Irving Layton (1912 - 2006) was born in Tirgul Neamt, Romania and moved to Montréal, Québec when he was a one year old. He won the Governor General's award for 'A Red Carpet for the Sun' in 1959. In 1976 he was made an Officer of the Order of Canada.
Earl Birney (1904 - 1995) was born in Calgary, Alberta. He won the Governor General's Award for 'David and Other Poems' in 1942.
Morley Callaghan (1903 - 1990) was born in Toronto, Ontario. He won the Governor General's Award 'The Loved and the Lost' in 1951.
Mordecai Richler (1931 - 2001) was born in Montreal, Quebec. He won the Governor General's Award twice, in 1969 for 'Cocksure and Hunting Tigers Under Glass' and again in 1972 for 'St. Urbain's Horseman'.
Maragret Laurence (1926 - 1987) was born in Neepawa, Manitoba. She won the Governor General's Award twice, in 1966 for 'A Jest of God' and again in 1974 for 'The Diviners'. In 1972 she was made a Companion of the Order of Canada.
