Edgar Rice Burroughs served in the 7th Cavalry and saw active service
in the desert southwest. From his experience with that country and its
people, aided by his own imagination, ERB was able to "see" the great
Indian wars from the Indian point-of-view.
This is the first of the two books he wrote set in the Apache nation.
Here we see the bitterly harsh rearing of a boy in the tribal tradition
--- a white boy stolen in a raid, who became known as Shoz-Dijiji (The
Black Bear), adopted son of Geronimo. Reared with a venomous hatred for
all Whites, he becomes in time a great war chief, like his dreaded
First paperback printing, 1964. Some dirt on the cover, and there's a
double vertical crease on the left side; also edge and corner wear.
Spine looks good except some dirt on the back is visible on the left
edge. Pages are brown. Binding is tight and square.
