Sphere 4614 The Ghost Pirates GOOD
The Ghost Pirates
By William Hope Hodgson
There were rumors that the Mortzestus was haunted, but when
she had sailed two weeks out of 'Frisco before a fair wind, the crew
dismissed them. Then, unaccountably, the rigging went slack. A ghostly
form was seen to climb up from the sea. A great weight crashed down from
the mast. The shadows seemed to thicken and eerie happenings fanned the
rumors into life again.
Convinced that supernatural powers were attacking the ship, the
terrified men plotted mutiny. They demanded to be put ashore at the
nearest port. But an impenetrable mist descended around the ship,
leaving her helpless. It looked as if she were in danger of a legendary
fate: to vanish on a calm sea without a trace.
First published in 1909. This Sphere (British) paperback dates from
1975, part of a series of old occult novels assembled by pulp writer
Dennis Wheatley.Cover is clean with some tiny white specks, and a big
