A-8 John Myers Myers SILVERLOCK Good
By John Myers Myers
Cover by Jack Gaughan
In this heady mixture of myth, fable, history and allegory, a selfish and conceited young lad, one A. Clarence Shandon of Chicago, is shipwrecked. Instead of the familiar lands of the known continents, he finds himself in a country known only as The Commonwealth.
His first adventure in this strange land is nearly his last - falling under the spell of Circe and barely escaping pighood. Acquiring a friend who can guide him through this mysterious place, he proceeds across the country (via Watling Street!), encountering dozens of characters: historical personages, mythical beings, refugees from other novels. He visits Xanadu and Thebes and Ilium, and other mystic places. He emerges transformed from a cocky know-it-all into Silverlock, the gallant knight. Great Stuff!
It was originally published in 1949, but never in paperback until this Ace edition about 20 years later. Cover is clean with a deep reading crease, and edge and corner wear.Spine is creased in center, rubbed along right edge, concave. Small piece of tape at lower right corner. Pages are light tan. Binding is partially broken at the crease.
