D-242 Empire Of The Atom/Space Station #1 GOOD+
Empire Of The Atom
by A. E. Van Vogt
They were strange people, those inhabitants of Earth in the year 12,000 A.D., long after the Galactic War. They possessed the power of the atom; they had space ships; but they did not understand how these things worked, and they did not know the most elementary principles of science. The strangest of them was the young man Clane, mutant offspring of the ruling family.
Clane should have been destroyed-for that was the rule for such freaks. But when a senitmental decision allowed him to survive, it was to be the start of a chain-reaction of super-scientific miracles that would either remold the solar System on a higher scale or reduce it once more to barbarism.
A superlative imagination taking concepts from Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, and transmuting them via verbal alchemy into an epoch ten millennia beyond our present day. Great Stuff!
Space Station #1
by Frank Belknap Long
Tremendous and glittering, the Space Station floated up out of the Big Dark. Lieutenant Corriston had come to see its marvels, but he soon found himself trapped in unexpected terrors.
The grim reality was that an unknown, unsuspected outer space power had usurped control of the artificial moon. A beautiful woman had disappeared; passengers were being fleeced and enslaved; and, using fantastic disguises, imposters from - somewhere - were using the station for their own mysterious ends.
Covers are clean, but each has several crinkles, both long and short. Two faint creases in the spine,a nd one corner has a tiny split. Pages are off-white. Binding is tight, with one bump in the edges.
