I had absolutely no idea what this piece was called until, "misterfinder" came through with the information. It was hanging on a plate rail in a kitchen at an estate auction that I attended. Made of wood and with threaded insert. There is a metal wafer inside, at the bottom that can be removed. The threaded insert can be screwed down against the metal wafer, thus possibly forcing garlic or something comparable through the metal disc. My first instinct was pepper but I think pepper would be too substantial and would break something. The overall dimensions are app. 2 1/8"D and 3 1/2" tall. There is a crack in the knob at the tip as well as a crack that extends down app. half way on the base. The base was made with three flat panels, spaced evenly. An interesting and unusual piece. If you have a question please ask. Buyer to pay shipping and if desired insurance. Good luck. (147)
