Item Description
This auction is for a woodland period steatite ceremonial pipe in classic Iroquoian style with high scalloped finned ornate tripple suspension holes and a front trowel that is thought to represent the front of a canoe. It measures 7 inches long and 2 2/3 inches high. It has excellent patina and the only damage is a small chip on the lower scallop of the bottom and middle trowel. It is old damage and is well patinaed over. The pipe shows wear and use but I would concider this pipe to be museum grade example of an authentic early American pipe. The semetry is near perfect. It's a very solid and well made piece. It's ex- Hill,Peake and Sumrell collection from Lee Co. Virginia.
