Item Description
This is for the scarce 1974 Cherokee Bookshop
Comic Book Catalog. This was from 1974, and that is confirmed by the
postmark on the back cover, as these were mail order catalogs (and sent
out to people). Cherokee Bookshop was located in Los Angeles and had
one of the first comic book stores (the bookshop devoting the entire
second floor of their building to comics) in the 1960s, and is rumored
to have had the largest stock in the world for a period of time. This
catalog featured a great Krazy Kat and Ignatz cover.
Inside is packed with text listings for DC, Marvel, EC, King Features,
Archie, Warner Brothers, Walter Lantz, Walt Disney, and many other
publishers, along with Big Little Books, Batman scripts, Creepy,
original Marvel comic art, and much more! There's even a listing for
Flash Gordon and The Phantom Revell model kits for $2.50 each! Contains
41 pages, plus the Table of Contents. Additionally, near the back is
an offer for 4 Jack Kirby prints and 4 Frank Frazetta prints, and there
is black and white art of the prints printed (besides the cover, this is
the only art inside the catalog). Amazing reference piece and
incredibly hard to find! This also includes the original "Notice in
Change of Prices" insert which was taped to the inside cover (which
includes the price of Fantastic Four #1 going from $60.00 to $100.00 and
Spiderman #1 going from $35.00 to $50.00). The original tape is still
here, but browned. It has come loose from the inside cover, and there
is a brown spot where the tape originally was on the inside cover. The
insert has a thin diagonal crease to the upper right corner.
Catalog itself is also in amazing condition. Back cover has handwritten
address (and previously mentioned postmark). Front cover has a couple
of very small spots on it (one of them you can feel, so is some kind of
material stuck to it). These are very small and you can see one in the
scan (look along the top line of the box that Krazy Kat is in). Staple
bound and staples are clean and not rusted. No writing, tears or
marks. Even the corners are pretty sharp!
