HELLO!
You are viewing two very precious, vintage, twin, cloth Dutch dolls.The dolls were purchased in the 1950’s, and throughout the past 55+ years have remained in great condition!
According to a doll appraiser, these twins were made in the early 1940’s by the WPA (Works Project Administration) which was in effect from 1935-1942.He described them as “American War Folk Artâ€, and seven years ago, verbally appraised them for $250.00-$300.00.For more information about the WPA projects, please click on this link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Works_Progress_Administration
In addition to the doll appraiser, I've communicated with several doll collectors/connoisseurs, who informed me that these dolls were not made by the WPA. Please make your own judgment. I will be happy to communicate further and email additional photos.
The dolls are approximately 14.5†tall and are wearing their original clothing:acetate color-coordinated panties; off-white stand-up collar blouses with full sleeves and elastic cuffs; color-coordinated pinafores; dotted Swiss aprons and bonnets; gold felt wooden-look shoes; and nylon socks.The dolls’ bodies are cloth; their hair is yarn; and their faces are hand-embroidered.
Parts of their bodies and hair are not perfectly clean; the gold felt shoes have faded onto parts of their socks; one shoe has a small hole in the heel area; and on some parts of their legs are smudge marks.There are three small pinholes in the yellow pinafore and one small pinhole in the green pinafore.A 1†wide section of one blouse collar needs re-stitching, and the blouse of the ‘yellow’ doll was made too small (it doesn’t stretch all the way across her back).I have probably missed other marks, stains, spots, and/or discolorations, but right now I don’t see them, and the above-mentioned are the worst.
