Many modern online auction sites use fixed end times which allows for "sniping" auctions. Sniping: bidding at the last second of an auction with a fixed end time not allowing anyone an opportunity to outbid them before the auction closes. At Webstore we employ a more "traditional" approach to auction end times. If a last-minute bid is placed within 5 minutes of an auctions posted end-time, the auction duration is increased by 5 minutes (from the latest bid) in order to allow interested bidders an opportunity to bid again. This process continues (5 minutes added with each new bid) until a full 5 minutes passes with no new bids, at which time the auction closes and the highest bidder is determined.
