This is the X-10 Powerhouse brand Thermostat Set-back Controller model TH2807. The thermostat set-back controller can regulate central heating and air conditioning controlled by any thermostat. When used with an X10 timer you can program your central heating to automatically reduce the temperature of your home when you're sleeping or away from home. In the summer months it can regulate your central air conditioning system to help save energy dollars and still pre-cool your home before you return. When used with the X10 telephone controller you can call from any touch tone phone in the world and instantly warm up or pre-cool your home ready for your arrival. This would be great for summer homes or winter cottages.
You can install the setback controller in minutes without ever having to touch your existing thermostat wiring. It simply mounts on the wall under your existing thermostat using double sided tape (included) or screws (not included). You plug the power supply into an X10 appliance module or a wall outlet module. The appliance module or wall outlet module then turns the power to the thermostat set-back ON or OFF in response to X10 signals received over your existing house wiring from any X10 remote control, timer, or controller.
Controlling Central Heating
Set your thermostat to the temperature you want your home to be during non set-back hours (for example 70 degrees when you are home). When the appliance or outlet module is ON, a low voltage is applied to the set-back controller which in turn generates a small amount of heat right under your thermostat. This "fools" your thermostat into thinking the room is hotter than it really is by 5, 10, or 15 degrees (depending on the selector switch setting). The result is that with a thermostat setting of say 70 degrees F and the set-back set to medium (10 degrees reduction) the actual room temperature will be kept at 60 degrees. When the power to the set-back controller is OFF, the room temperature will rise again to the setting on your thermostat (70° F). Therefore the appliance or wall outlet module powering the set-back controller should be programmed to be OFF during the day (when you want it warmer) and ON when you are sleeping or away from the house (when you want it cooler).
Controlling Central Air Conditioning
Set your thermostat to the maximum temperature you want your home to be when you are not home. When the power is ON to the set-back controller, the heat generated by it again "fools" your thermostat into thinking the room is hotter than it actually is by 5, 10, or 15 degrees (depending on the selector switch setting). The result is that a thermostat setting of say 80 degrees and the set-back to medium (10 degree reduction), the actual room temperature will be kept at 70 degrees when the set-back is ON. When the power to the set-back is OFF, the room temperature will rise to the setting on your thermostat of 80 degrees. Therefore, the appliance or wall outlet module that powers the set-back controller should be programmed to be OFF when when you are not home and ON when you are home and want it to be cooler.
