In the New Mexico Territory in 1866, Jack Fowler (Randy Travis) is attacked by a man who thinks he is Jack Cole. Jack Fowler kills the man while defending himself and is on run for 8 years as a group lead by Lucas Moat (Ernest Borgnine) searches for him to take revenge. Jack Fowler gets wounded and reaches the homestead of Fiona Champyon (Stella Stevens) who lives with her son and nurses him back to health. Her boy friend is sheriff Hank Bowman (Eric Roberts) who is also looking for Jack Fowler. He finally decides to clear his name and get reunited with his family.
