Item Description
Beautiful 14 1/2" Tete Jumeau Antique Bisque Doll. There are no marks on her body but is very similar to Fleischman Bloedels 1898 Eden Bebe body also made by the Jumeau company. The body is long and has high hips. Her legs are slender as are her arms which have jointed wrists. Her head is stamped in red ink "Tete Jumeau." Also there is a large faded red 5 and an incised 5.
She has a blond Meyerlon hair like wig with bangs and shoulder length ringlets over a cork pate. The pierced ears are flat and are applied and are decorated with pearl earrings. Her eyebrows are long and feathered . She has beautiful blue paper weight stationary eyes with black painted lashes. She has four upper teeth and red nostrils.
She is wearing black patent type slippers with tiny black bows, white rayon socks with a pink stripe. Her underclothes are made of fine white lawn and edged with narrow antique val lace and consists of a panty waist, pants a a full length petticoat. The one piece dress is made of old materials and has a pale pink pleated skirt of wide satin ribbon with a full length front panel covered with cream colored silk lace which is edged with pink rose bud braid. The bolero type bodice is of heavy corded white silk with large lavender flowers and pale green leaves and edged in inch wide handmade lace. It has a high neck and long sleeves (there is a small tear in the back and jacket is starting to melt). She is wearing a pearl choker and fancy poke bonnet type leghorn hat which is elaborately trimmed with a tan pompom type feather, horse hair braid and pink rose buds and rose braid.
This doll was part of the recently closed Dolly Ware's Doll Museum in Florence, Oregon.
She is a lovely doll, with large bright eyes, beautiful complexion and will be a fine addition to anyone's collection!
