The primary item was part of the collection of Henry J. Hauschild Jr., who billed himself as a “Physiognomist – Bibliopolist – Cognoscente di Eccellentissimo”, and was the very proud owner of the world famous "Nose Gallery” at “The Oldest House” in Victoria, Texas. Henry Senior founded the Hauschild Music Company which was later owned by his 8 children and eventually the four brothers before being closed in 1980; After the Opera House Restaurant failed, the space became the Bible Book Store and later Opera House Antiques; This item was part of the leftover inventory of the Music Store and at one time was on consignment at the Bible Book Store;

"Musicologist and historian, Delmer Rogers, longtime member of the staff of the Department of Music at the University of Texas, is of the opinion that the Hauschild Music Company, founded in Victoria, Texas in 1891, was the second oldest institution to commercially publish sheet music in Texas. (Thos. Goggan of Houston being the first.) Also, his extensive research indicates that Hauschild's was the first in Texas to issues music with Spanish titles. About thirty were published, many by talented writers, and sold in large numbers. In addition, probing seems to prove that Hauschilds was the first to publish the efforts of several of the music-loving Germans of the area. Most interesting, too, is that the spritely composition, the Cowboy Rag offered in 1904 possibly was the purcursor of this genre of popular music." taken from "The Cognoscenti Collections";

HISTORICAL NOTE: "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile! is a Merrie Melodies cartoon short (September 5, 1931), & also the title of the song performed in the cartoon. This is one of the only three Merrie Melodies cartoons to star Foxy, the other two being Lady, Play Your Mandolin! (August, 1931) & One More Time (October 3, 1931). Foxy is a trolley engineer whose problems include an obese lady hippo who can't fit into the trolley & a set of wheels that detach from the trolley car while it's moving. Foxy picks up his vixen girlfriend & gives her a ride, but then the car is blocked by a cow who won't get off the track. A group of nearby hobos sing the title song while Foxy tries to move the cow; he finally runs the car underneath the cow & goes on his way. The trolley then goes down a hill & runs out of control; Foxy tries to stop it, but the brakes don't work. The trolley runs off of a cliff, throwing Foxy right into the camera... and then he wakes up from what turned out to be just a dream. The radio by his bed is playing the title song, & Foxy smashes it with a bedpost. The title song was featured twice in the 1988 movie Who Framed Roger Rabbit; 1st when Eddie drives into Toontown, & again at the end of the film. The song can now be heard as part of the background area music in the Esplanade at the Disneyland Resort as well as in the Mickey's Toontown area of Disneyland Park. The lady hippo's gibberish dialogue is actually the following sentence played backwards: "Susie heard one of those Atlantic bells! Whataya think?" Inside the trolley car are a number of parody advertisements based on real products of the time, including Arrow collars ("Narrow Collars"), Smith Brothers cough drops ("Sniff Brothers Cough Drops") & Fisk Tires ("Risk Tires"). A portion of this cartoon appeared on a couple episodes of Pee-wee's Playhouse.";

HISTORICAL NOTE: " Jack Meskill (1897–1973) Born: March 21, 1897 in New York City, New York, USA. Died: May 18, 1973 (age 76) in Los Angeles, California, USA .";

HISTORICAL NOTE: "Charles O'Flynn was a 20th century songwriter who was active during the Tin Pan Alley era; specifically from 1921 through 1947. One of O'Flynn's most famous lyrics is from the popular song "Smile, Darn Ya, Smile."";

HISTORICAL NOTE: " Max Rich (1897–1970). Born: August 22, 1897 in Brooklyn, New York City, New York, USA. Died: April 22, 1970 (age 72) .";
