Item Description

Suwadee Ka From the land of a thousand smiles.

Hello my name is KAN and welcome to my page.

HELLO AND WELCOME TO THE LAND OF A THOUSAND SMILES:

Although I am somewhat new to Internet selling I will do my best to describe my items as they are. All I ask is give me a try you will not be disappointed I can assure you.

My Family have compiled a wealth of unique treasures, antiques and artworks from Asia especially Chinese antiques with a fantastic and mysterious history from travels. Japan, China, Thailand, Bali, Tibet, Cambodia, Taiwan, Burma and Vietnam.

Many of my items have been from years of collecting and accumulating from estates, private collections and contacts here in Asia. Some of my items are now for sale due to our house being over full/loaded plus I have 2 rooms at the rear of my house also full. Many items have been in my family for many years rather than leaving them all boxed up. I would rather sell them on for your pleasure of displaying them in your home, office, Retail Business etc.

You also will find on my auction pages some unusual objects/Items not normally associated with Antiques for instance Gold & Diamond Jewelry, brand name watches, Stamps and a variety of other non related antique items which makes this unique from other sellers

Due to the fact 1 of my family members is a Pawnbroker which is why I will be offering the above mention extra items to my sales.

I can comunicate in English, German, Chinese & of course Thai.

Han period bell
Bronze temple bell of Han period (206 B.C.-A.D. 220). Although retaining some Chou features, the general craftsmanship is inferior, the handle plain.

~ Temple Bells ~

The ringing voices of bells have comforted man in time of despair, warned him of impending danger, and accompanied him in battle, in revelry, and in worship.
The origin of bells is shrouded in the mist of antiquity. We can imagine, though, that early man first stumbled on the discovery that striking objects around him-stone, wood, shell, horn, or bone-produced a pleasing resonance. Before long, a rhythmic beat was used to accentuate the ritual of tribal dances.

As time went on, it was found that cured animal skin, stretched over a hollow log, emitted a sonorous boom when beaten. A tone of definite pitch could be produced by blowing through a hollow bamboo or reed. Resilient pieces of wood clacking against one another were used as a rattle, and a dried gourd containing loose seeds was a natural percussion instrument.

Achieving a true ringing sonority, however, had to await man's discovery of how to smelt the ore of metals, such as copper, tin, and zinc. The development of this skill ushered in the Bronze Age around 3000 B.C. According to the Bible (Genesis 4:22), the first forger of metals was Tubal-cain (e. 3800 B.C.).

Copper, the earliest metal to be used extensively, was initially fashioned into such basic articles as utensils, tools, weapons, and personal ornaments. The primitive artisans would have hammered or cast shapes that produced varying degrees of reverberation when struck. It must have been apparent that certain pots, bowls, and plates gave forth a more pleasing sound than others. In time, man mastered the technique of fusing copper with other metals, producing a stronger and more rigid alloy; the resulting tone was even more delightful. Man had developed a new substance with a special characteristic which was destined to play a unique role in all future cultures.

Precisely where bells first appeared is unknown; both Eastern and Western Asia have been claimed as the area of origin. Whatever the case, the entire civilized world of antiquity was eventually acquainted with numerous forms of metallic ringing objects, and the pattern of their use was universal to a large extent.

Bells and gongs, often in combination with drums and other musical instruments, have long been used to accompany the dance, and jingling-type bells often adomed the dancers themselves. The use of bells on domestic animals is also of ancient origin.

The Chinese of antiquity were successful in controlling the pitch of bells as well as sets of stone slabs, and both were used to produce music. Inevitably, these appealing sounds became integrated into the rituals of worship.

In all religions throughout the ages, ecclesiastics have sought to create an environment that would enhance spiritual communion by appealing to the senses, both emotionally and aesthetically. The bell held a certain aura of mysticism, as if it contained hidden spirits that communicated with the living by means of an enigmatic language, one intermittently plaintive, ominous, stern, or reassuring. From earliest times, the indefinite fading of a ringing tone has been associated with the infinite.

The sound created by the bell is a plea to the gods....whom the drums have called down to earth...to remain here. Wonderful old Thai Shaman ward off demons ritual bell for Buddhist priest. Bronze metal bell is with clear sound. Bell placed at the temple entrance. People arriving for blessing ring bell to tell the local deity of their arrival to be blessed. Buddhist bells used in prayer & rituals by Buddhist practitioners.

These temple bells are made on site by the monks and are very rare. Lord Ganesh

Traditional craft passed down the centuries, precious materials & images woven into a magical spell. A sacred keepsake for your spiritual journey.

In the past these bells were used to decorate the temple and weren't for sale.

In Thailand, Buddhist temples often have bells made of brass or bronze hanging from frameworks of wood or metal.
Unlike the gongs in temples that are used to wake up monks and announce prayer times, these bells are used by the faithful and are struck after making an offering at the shrine.

Striking the bell is thought to remove spells or protect a person from evil spirits. It is also believed that the sound of bells ringing can purify a holy place.

Measurements: Bell is approximately 5.5 inches x 3 inches.
