The primary item was part of the collection of Henry J. Hauschild Jr., who billed himself as a âPhysiognomist â Bibliopolist â Cognoscente di Eccellentissimoâ, and was the very proud owner of the world famous "Nose Galleryâ at âThe Oldest Houseâ in Victoria, Texas. Henry Senior founded the Hauschild Music Company which was later owned by his 8 children and eventually the four brothers before being closed in 1980; After the Opera House Restaurant failed, the space became the Bible Book Store and later Opera House Antiques; This item was comingled with the leftover inventory of the Music Store and at one time was on consignment at the Bible Book Store;
"Musicologist and historian, Delmer Rogers, longtime member of the staff of the Department of Music at the University of Texas, is of the opinion that the Hauschild Music Company, founded in Victoria, Texas in 1891, was the second oldest institution to commercially publish sheet music in Texas. (Thos. Goggan of Houston being the first.) Also, his extensive research indicates that Hauschild's was the first in Texas to issues music with Spanish titles. About thirty were published, many by talented writers, and sold in large numbers. In addition, probing seems to prove that Hauschilds was the first to publish the efforts of several of the music-loving Germans of the area. Most interesting, too, is that the spritely composition, the Cowboy Rag offered in 1904 possibly was the purcursor of this genre of popular music." taken from "The Cognoscenti Collections";

The film's theme song, "Ruby", was composed by Heinz Eric Roemheld. It has subsequently become a pop standard & has been covered many times, both as an instrumental & in a version with lyrics by Mitchell Parish. HISTORICAL NOTE: "Mitchell Parish (July 10, 1900 â March 31, 1993) was an American lyricist. Parish was born Michael Hyman Pashelinsky to a Jewish family in Lithuania. His family emigrated to the US, arriving on February 3, 1901 on the SS Dresden when he was less than a year old. They settled 1st in Louisiana where his paternal grandmother had relatives, but later moved to New York City. By the late 1920s Parish was a well regarded Tin Pan Alley lyricist in New York City. His best known works include the lyrics to songs such as "Star Dust", "Sweet Lorraine", "Deep Purple", "Stars Fell on Alabama", "Sophisticated Lady", "Volare" (English lyrics), "Moonlight Serenade", "Sleigh Ride", "One Morning in May", & "Louisiana Fairy Tale", which was the 1st theme song used in the PBS Production of This Old House. Besides providing the lyrics to Hoagy Carmichael's "Star Dust", the two collaborated on standards such as "Riverboat Shuffle" & "One Morning in May". In 1949, Parish added lyrics to bandleader Al Goodman's tune, "The Allen Stroll", used as the theme song of The Fred Allen Show. The new song, "Carousel of Love", premiered on The Fred Allen Show on April 4, 1949. It was sung by the DeMarco Sisters & played by Al Goodman & his Orchestra. In 1987 a revue titled Stardust was staged on Broadway featuring Parish's lyrics. It ran for 101 performances & was revived in 1999. Parish's great nephew was the Grateful Dead roadie Steve Parish, who described Parish's meeting with Jerry Garcia in his autobiography, "Home Before Day Light". Mitchell Parish died in 1993 in Manhattan at the age of 92. He was buried in Beth David Cemetery in Elmont, New York.";
HISTORICAL NOTE: "Heinz Roemheld (May 1, 1901 â February 11, 1985) was an American composer. Born Heinrich Erich Roemheld in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was one of four children of German immigrant Heinrich Roemheld & his wife Fanny Rauterberg Roemheld. Heinrich was a pharmacist, but all the members of the family were musical. Heinrich's brother Edgar (1898-1964) became a conductor, while sister Irmgard (1904-1995) became a well-known Milwaukee music teacher & radio broadcaster. Roemheld was a child prodigy who began playing the piano at the age of 4. He graduated from the Milwaukee College of Music at 19, & performed in theaters to earn money to study piano in Europe. In 1920, he went to Berlin, where he studied with Hugo Kaun, Ferruccio Busoni, & Egon Petri. While he was there, he appeared in concert with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. When he returned to America, Roemheld became involved in recording music for silent movies, both as a pianist & as a conductor. In 1925, he was sent back to Berlin as head of Universal Pictures theaters there, but he had to leave Germany in 1929 because of the rise of Nazism. Back in America, Roemheld became a prominent film composer. He scored some scenes in Gone with the Wind, including the burning of Atlanta, although he was not credited on-screen. In 1942 he won the Academy Award for Best Original Music Score for Yankee Doodle Dandy. Among the more than 400 other films for which he composed music were Gentleman Jim, The Lady From Shanghai, The Invisible Man, & Shine On, Harvest Moon. Roemheld continued writing for film for several of the major studios until the late 1950s. After briefly working in television, he retired in 1964 to concentrate on his classical composition. He is best known for the song "Ruby", from the movie Ruby Gentry (1952), which has become a standard. He married a former Miss Milwaukee, Emeline Defnet (1901-1980), from whom he was later divorced. They had two daughters, Mary Lou Roemheld, who was married for years to game show host Jack Narz, & Ann, who married game show host Bill Cullen.";
