Philippines Raul Lebajo Red Bloom Oil Painting

Born in Tacloban 1941. Art Studies, University of the East 1966-67. BFA PWU 1969. First Solo Exhibit, Solidaridad Gallery as one of F. Sionil Jose's discoveries. Nine of his local one-man show were mounted at the Luz from 1971, including that of his huge, free-form sculpture. Has had 15 solos till 2000. Joined many group exhibits. Including Phil representation at the Cultural Week in West Germany, 1977. A product of the ferment in Phil Art in the late 60's was absorbed in the exploration of abstract expression. Inclined towards surrealism, infused works with the images that evoke the realm of dream or the bizarre. One of his solo abroad were at Le Plaza Hotel in Basel, Switzerland, 1987, where he was very well received. Among his medals a gold and silver, SNSAC, 1967-68; and another gold at PWU's Invitational Art Competition. Exhibited at the CCP and the Museum of Phil Art, and mounted solos in West Germany, HK, and Japan. In 1998, joined the Worlds Art Exhibit sponsored by Beaux Art of Paris and Asian Art News, also exhibiting at the Natl Gallery of Kuala Lumpur. Influence by Belgian surrealist Rene Magritte and Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Works are in private and and corporate collections in Manila and Europe.
