OLYMPIC 1994 LILLEHAMMER COLLECTOR PLATE. NORWAY
This stunning collector's plate from the 1994 Olympic Games, held in Lillehammer Norway, was manufactured by the Porsgrund Porcelain company. The plate has a classic Scandinavian blue and white motif. The focal point is a very young Olympic hopeful on cross country skis, perhaps on his way to Birkebeineren Skistadion, the venue for the cross country skiing of these Olympic games. It measures 8 1/8" in diameter.
The Olympic seal and Lillehammer '94 is clearly visible on the upper left of the plate. Marked on the back is Porsgrund Norway, and the initials PP (PORSGRUNDS Porselaensfabrik) astride an anchor.
The plate is in flawless condition. It measures 8 1/8" in diameter.
Johan Jeremiassen established PORSGRUNDS Porselaensfabrik AS in 1885. The factory, idyllically located on the west bank of the Porsgrunn River and looking the same today as it did over 100 years ago, has enjoyed continuous production since 1887. In fact, the company still uses the same original "recipes" for all of its products. It is Norway's only producer of feldspar porcelain and it is the main suppler of porcelain flatware and products for the Royal family.
