Item Description
This rare elegant EAPG prize was made by Millersburg Glass Company. The pattern is Hobstar and Frosted Feather. This is a large glass bowl with fabulous clarity.Itâs in excellent condition for a piece that is 100 years old! There are some light use scratches. The base where it sits on the table is slightly rough, but there are no chips or cracks or repairs. The saw-tooth or zigzag top rim is excellent as well with no chips. There are clear hobstars and feathers which are beautifully frosted with gently curled edges. This is the large ice cream bowl but it could be used as a fruit bowl too. This large bowl measures 9 7/8â across the center and itâs 2 1/4â high.
This is an elegant piece of crystal â an excellent and rare example of early American pattern glass. The pattern is very deeply cut or impressed. Wouldn't it look lovely on your table or in the safety of your china closet?
Please keep in mind that I can only insure this piece for the selling price.
Millersburg was founded in 1908 by John W. Fenton and started glass production in mid-May 1909 in Millersburg, Ohio.John was Frank Fentonâs brother and part owner of Fenton Art Glass Company; so the quality of glass, much like Fenton Glass, was top notch. The factory was custom-built and supposedly state of the art; but the company ceased operations in June of 1911 after declaring bankruptcy. The plant closed in 1912.Initially, they produced only crystal glass and then began adding frosted and iridized or radium glass pieces.
Many of the pieces produced, particularly bowls, are the most sought after by the present day collector.Frosted and carnival versions are also more sought after than are clear glass versions. The Hobstar & Feather pattern is one of the most popular with collectors and I understand a large carnival glass bowl in this pattern sold for $24,000 a few years ago!
