Item Description
This is a nice smaller sized 11" oval serving platter. There are no chips or cracks, but as you can see in the photos, there is some crazing. There's an intricate pattern around the border which is probably transferware. Most of the gold on the outside edge has been worn off. This is quite heavy and sturdy ironstone. The back of the plate is marked (embossed) with the company emblem which contains the word "Mercer" printed diagonally through the center of a shield. The heavy duty construction of this platter reminds us of restaurant ware, but I have no idea whether or not it was produced as such. We've been told this platter is probably at least 70 years old. For the age of the platter, it's in very good condition. There is some staining to the ironstone, as you can see in the pictures.
