Magnificent Obsession is a 1929 novelby Lloyd C. Douglas. It was one of four of his books that were eventually made into blockbuster motion pictures, the other three being The Robe, White Banners and The Big Fisherman.
The book's plot portrays Mrs. Hudson, the widow, moving to Europe after Joyce, the doctor's daughter, gets married. Merrick progresses in his career, and in the story's climax, gets involved in a railway accident in which Mrs. Hudson suffers a brain injury. Merrick is instrumental in her recovery.
His written works were of a moral, didactic, and distinctly religious tone. His first novel, Magnificent Obsession, published in 1929, was an immediate and sensational success. Critics held that his type of fiction was in the tradition of the great religious writings of an earlier generation, such as, Ben-Hur and Quo Vadis. Douglas was one of the most popular American authors of his time, although he didn't write his first novel until he was 50
Grosset & Dunlap is the publisher and I'm thinking sometype of book club ed. The Spine has discoloring and there is discoloring around the edge of the boards. The text has a nice appearance no torn pgs noticed and is tight. This copy will look good in your lib.
