ABOUT KWAN YIN
kuan yin ... kwan yin ... quan yin
The spelling may differ, but the energy is the same.
Kwan Yin is a bodhisattva, one destined to become a Buddha, but who delays their own blissful nirvana that transcends personal suffering, karma and samsara, and, instead, works for the liberation of all beings. She vowed to remain in the earthly realms, assisting others with their enlightenment, until all have escaped the repetitious cycle of birth, death, rebirth. What an amazing vow!
The name Kwan Yin translates to roughly mean "She who hears the cries of the world". Legend has it that Kwan Yin was ready to make her ascension from the earthly plane, but paused when she heard the cries of the world and then vowed to remain.

Prayer to Kuan Yin
"The divine form of Kuan Yin is visualized, who is the embodiment of all the infinite buddhas' compassionate wisdom. From her body shines a halo of white light. She is youthful, and her head is covered with a lovely white robe that drapes her body. Kuan Yin is magnificently beautiful."
=LEFT>"The famous six syllable mantra of the Compassion Buddha, Om Mani Padme Hum is recited while doing the meditation and visualization. After every 108 recitations, white light is visualized coming from Kuan Yin, flowing into and completely filling the whole body. It purifies selfishness, the self-cherishing mind, ignorance, attachment, and anger -- obstacles to a person's practice of compassion. The white light blesses the person practicing the visualization, and gives them the ability to understand and integrate kindness in their daily lives. They dedicate their prayers to attaining the bodhichitta heart -- the intense wish to attain enlightenment for the sake of all sentient beings."
