The primary item was part of the collection of Henry J. Hauschild Jr., who billed himself as a “Physiognomist – Bibliopolist – Cognoscente di Eccellentissimo”, and was the very proud owner of the world famous "Nose Gallery” at “The Oldest House” in Victoria, Texas. Henry Senior founded the Hauschild Music Company which was later owned by his 8 children and eventually the four brothers before being closed in 1980; After the Opera House Restaurant failed, the space became the Bible Book Store and later Opera House Antiques; This item was part of the leftover inventory of the Music Store and at one time was on consignment at the Bible Book Store;

"Musicologist and historian, Delmer Rogers, longtime member of the staff of the Department of Music at the University of Texas, is of the opinion that the Hauschild Music Company, founded in Victoria, Texas in 1891, was the second oldest institution to commercially publish sheet music in Texas. (Thos. Goggan of Houston being the first.) Also, his extensive research indicates that Hauschild's was the first in Texas to issues music with Spanish titles. About thirty were published, many by talented writers, and sold in large numbers. In addition, probing seems to prove that Hauschilds was the first to publish the efforts of several of the music-loving Germans of the area. Most interesting, too, is that the spritely composition, the Cowboy Rag offered in 1904 possibly was the purcursor of this genre of popular music." taken from "The Cognoscenti Collections";

HISTORICAL NOTE: "James Lamont "Haven" Gillespie (February 6, 1888 – March 14, 1975) was an American Tin Pan Alley composer & lyricist. He was the writer of "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town" as well as "You Go to My Head", "Honey", "By the Sycamore Tree", "That Lucky Old Sun", "Breezin' Along With The Breeze", "Right or Wrong," "Beautiful Love", "Drifting & Dreaming", & "Louisiana Fairy Tale" (which was used as the 1st theme song in the PBS Production of This Old House), each song in collaboration with other talented people such as Beasley Smith, Ervin R. Schmidt, Wayne King, & Loyal Curtis. Gillespie was one of nine children of William & Anna Gillespie. The family was poor and lived in the basement of a house on Third Street between Madison Avenue & Russell Street. Gillespie dropped out of school in the 4th grade & could not find a job. His older sister, Lillian, had married John Hewling, who was in the printing business & the couple moved to Chicago. Lillian had written Haven that there was a job waiting for him there & that he could live with them. In 1902, Haven left his Covington home to join his sister & brother-in-law. A few years later, Gillespie began corresponding to a childhood sweetheart back in Covington. In 1908, he proposed marriage to Corene Parker by way of a postcard. The couple married on March 9, 1909, in Corene's Covington home. She was 19 & Haven was 21. He had fifteen dollars in his pocket & she had just one dollar given to her by her mother. Gillespie soon landed a job as a typesetter for the Cincinnati Times-Star, ultimately maintaining his membership in the International Typographic Union until his death. He found work as a "plug" man, entertaining audiences at local vaudeville shows by playing & singing songs he had written. They had only one child, Haven Lamont Gillespie, who was born January 10, 1910. His 1st break came in 1911 when he met Roy Steventon, performing with Mildred Lovejoy in a dancing act at the Keith Theater in Cincinnati. Gillespie & Steventon teamed up on three songs for the act, "You're Just The Girl I've Met In My Dreams", "When I Am Gone", & "Winter Time Is Coming Around Too Soon." Haven was paid one & a half cents for each piece of sheet music sold, total royalties which amounted to only a few dollars over the next several years. While touring to promote his songwriting, Gillespie began drinking heavily & would struggle with alcohol addiction most of his life. At age 23 & after a long night of drinking, he met Joe Ford, a printer with the Cincinnati Tribune. Ford took Haven home to sober up & the two men eventually developed a lifelong friendship. Gillespie's 1st major hit came in early 1925 with "Drifting & Dreaming." Many of his songs were inspired by chance moments in his life. He left for New York & became a journalist & composer of songs for vaudeville shows. He 1st gained notice in 1925 with "Breezin Along With The Breeze", in collaboration with Egbert Van Alstyne, Ervin R. Schmidt, & Loyal Curtis, which was recorded by Josephine Baker among many others. Gillespie worked in collaboration with many other artists including: George (Roy) Steventon; J. Fred Coots; Mitchell Parish; Henry Marshall; Henry Tobias; Charles Tobias; Neil Moret; Peter DeRose; Egbert Van Alsyne; Victor Young; Jack Little; Richard Whiting; Peter Wendling; Seymour Simons; Byron Gay; Rudy Vallée; Larry Shay; Lee David; Earl Edmonds; Lloyd Kidwell. He also wrote songs for: Dean Martin; Frank Sinatra; Michael Jackson; Louis Armstrong; Sarah Vaughn; Margaret Whiting; Bruce Springsteen; George Strait. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1972.";

HISTORICAL NOTE: "Jimmy Van Heusen (January 26, 1913 - February 7, 1990), was an American composer. He wrote songs for films & television & won four Academy Awards for Best Original Song, & an Emmy. Born Edward Chester Babcock in Syracuse, New York, he began writing music while at high school. He renamed himself at age 16, after the famous shirt makers, Phillips-Van Heusen, to use as his on-air name during a local radio show. Studying at Cazenovia Seminary & Syracuse Univ., he became friends with Jerry Arlen, the younger brother of Harold Arlen. With the elder Arlen's help, Van Heusen wrote songs for the Cotton Club revue, including "Harlem Hospitality." He then became a staff pianist for some of the Tin Pan Alley publishers, & wrote "It's the Dreamer in Me" (1938) with lyrics by Tommy Dorsey. Collaborating with lyricist Eddie DeLange, on songs such as "Heaven Can Wait", "So Help Me", & "Darn That Dream", his work became more prolific, writing over 60 songs in 1940 alone. It was in 1940 that he teamed up with the lyricist Johnny Burke. Burke & Van Heusen moved to Hollywood writing for stage musicals & films throughout the '40s & early '50s, winning an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Swinging on a Star" (1944). Their songs were also featured in A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court (1949). He was also also a pilot of some accomplishment; he worked, using his birth name, as a part-time test pilot for Lockheed Corporation in World War II. Van Heusen then teamed up with lyricist Sammy Cahn. Their three Academy Awards for Best Song were won for "All the Way" (1957) from The Joker Is Wild, "High Hopes" (1959) from A Hole in the Head, & "Call Me Irresponsible" (1963) from Papa's Delicate Condition. Their songs were also featured in Rear Window (1954) & Ocean's Eleven (1960). Cahn & Van Heusen also wrote "Love & Marriage" (1955), "To Love and Be Loved", "Come Fly with Me", "Only the Lonely", & "Come Dance with Me" with many of their compositions being the title songs for Frank Sinatra's albums of the late 50's. Van Heusen wrote the music for at least three Broadway musicals: Carnival in Flanders (1953), Skyscraper (1965), & Walking Happy (1966). He became an inductee of the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1971. Van Heusen composed over 800 plus songs of which 50 songs became standards. Van Heusen songs are featured in over one hundred eighty films. Van Heusen retired in the late 1970s, & died in Rancho Mirage, California in 1990, at the age of 77. He was close friends throughout life with Frank Sinatra. He is buried in the Sinatra family burial plot in Desert Memorial Park, in Cathedral City, California. His grave marker reads Swinging On A Star. Van Heusen was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song 14 times in 12 different years (in both 1945 & 1964 he was nominated for two songs), & won 4 times: in 1944, 1957, 1959, & 1963. He won one Emmy Award for Best Musical Contribution, for the song "Love & Marriage"(1955) (lyrics by Sammy Cahn), written for the 1955 television production of Our Town. He was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1965 for Best Musical Score Written for a Motion Picture or TV show "Robin & the Seven Hoods." He was also nominated for 3 Tony awards. He was nominated three times for a Golden Globe Award. Bob Hope's character in The Road to Hong Kong (1962) is named Chester Babcock, in reference to Van Heusen's birth name. Nikki Hornsby's parents were good friends of Jimmy Van Heusen from the 50s through to the 1970s influencing Nikki Hornsby's own career in music at an early age.";
