This very unique and unusual piece was purchased in the PearlIslands from one of the artist’s relatives.It is a simple yet beautiful carving, made from a section of one of their local woods.
Each of the four birds is individually carved and fastened into the ‘tree’.The base is also separately attached.The birds and parts of the tree and base are hand-colored.
No one on this very small island spoke English, so I know nothing of its meaning and/or interpretation.We bought the piece because it was one-of-a-kind, although similar pieces were being offered; and because it was so tremendously intriguing.
The ‘tree’ has been wrapped and stored for several years.
