For sale is a complete book of the Canada Farm News
Service, which was published, sold and distributed by the T. Eaton Company of
Canada.
In the 1930s (I think), Eaton's launched the Canada
Farm News Service by "distributing condensed information on subjects pertaining
to Agriculture and Home Interests," as noted on the opening page
(pictured).
The two-ring binder and various topics (47 in all)
were advertised in the Eaton's catalogue, from which farmers could order the
binder and most recent news service release.
Among the wide range of topics covered by the news
service (to name just some), were grains, forage, root, ensilage and rotation
crops, silos, dairying, horses, cattle, garden hints, implements and machinery,
harness and leather goods, buildings and farm accounts.
All 47 topics are included here.
The two ring binder is made of sturdy stuff and
remains in very good condition. It is 7x10 inches, The front is emblossed
"Eaton's Farm News Service." The color has worn off the letters, making it
difficult to see.
All the pages are in very good condition with no
writing, tears or moisture damage. Two pages have torn away from the binder
rings, but they can easily be repaired with binder page ringlets.
I think the book is from the 1930s, because of
illustrations showing farm equipment being pulled by horses.
This is a great Canadian prairie collectible that is
full of practical advice for survivng and thriving on the land.
I will gladly pass along more pictures upon request.
