Item Description
This early HUMMEL 'Good Shepherd" is a transitional piece, bearing the rare stamped full bee mark and is incised with the full crown mark . The underside has also the mold no 42/0 incised and the word Germany stamped. We believe also that the initials of the painter appear on the bottom. On the back of the base you can find the traditional M.I Hummel mark, which is the Hummel mark for authenticity.
This figurine was first modeled by the master sculptor Reinhold Unger in 1935, and is now a closed edition. The Full Crown mark or TMK- 1 was used from 1934-1950. The Full Bee mark or TMK-2 was used from 1940-1959. The fact that this piece has both marks places it around 1940.
This figurine features a curly haired little shepherd boy in a rust and cream colored robe. The boy has a shepherd's staff in hand and two white lambs, one across the boy's shoulders and the other meeting his gaze from the ground. There is a small flower, blue with a yellow center, near the base of the boy's staff.
It measures 6.25 inches tall x 2.5 inches wide and weighs about 5.6 ounces
The color and condition are excellent. No chips, breaks ,cracks or crazing whatsoever.
