Up for bids is an annual advertising booklet for Dr.
A.W. Chase, a longstanding Canadian company that manufactured and distributed
many over-the-counter medicines.
This booklet is from 1952 and is in very good to
excellent condition with no rips, tears, writing, loose pages or moisture
damage. It is 6x8.5 inches in dimension and has 32 pages.
The booklet advertises the whole array of the Dr.
Chase line - such as nerve pills, kidney-liver pills, Paradol ("for quick relief
of periodic pain"), syrup of linseed oil and turpentine, Dr. Chase's ointment,
linament and Catarrh powder, Dr, Chase brand cold symptom fighters, liver
medicine and backache plaster.
Dr. Chase's products are also touted in "news
stories" throughout he book, with headlines such as "Money refunded if Dr.
Chase's Liver Medicine Fails to Relieve", "Coughing Subsided After Two Doses",
"Husband and Wife Praise Dr. Chase's Proven Remedy", "Suffered for Years Found
relief with Paradol" and many others.
It all makes for fascinating reading.
The almanac portion of the booklet presents the usual
sort of stuff, tables on weights, measures, teacup fortunes, astrology, etc. The
calendar makes note of American and Canadian holidays, sun rises and sets, mean
time and so on.
