Item Description
This Civil War era quilt is made up of madder brown fabrics and rust colored fabrics. It has a backing fabric of a cream background with a pattern of browns, rust and black. It is a criss cross or variation of an ablum block pattern. The criss cross pattern was a popular pattern used in the early to mid 1800's. The fabrics date from the 1840's to the 1870's. The blocks are all hand pieced. It has a cotton batting and is tied with white yarn. Each square is 8" in size and the laterals are 4.5" wide. It has some light stains from age and usage and it also has 2 blocks with split seams. The edge binding has wear and has some holes in places. It is 82 x 80" in size and is in very good condition for a 140 year old quilt.
