Every young man has to have a trade, and Leo McGuire studied to be a burglar. Early on in life he fell in with men who could see only one way to make a living: the crooked way!

This is, literally, the biography of a criminal in novel form. The author clearly knows the underworld depths about which he writes, and the type of (sub-) humans who inhabit it. Great stuff!

There was an Armed Forces edition of this published in 1944, so this 1950 Bantam is not truly the first PB printing. Clean and bright with wear along left edge of cover, and a rubber stamp "E25" placed dead center. Spine is also clean, slightly canted, with a triangular tear at top left. Pages are white. Edges are slightly bumped outward in center.
