The Sheet Music item was part of the collection of Henry J. Hauschild Jr., who billed himself as a “Physiognomist – Bibliopolist – Cognoscente di Eccellentissimo”, and was the very proud owner of the world famous "Nose Gallery” at “The Oldest House” in Victoria, Texas. Henry Senior founded the Hauschild Music Company which was later owned by his 8 children and eventually the four brothers before being closed in 1980; After the Opera House Restaurant failed, the space became the Bible Book Store and later Opera House Antiques; This item was part of the leftover inventory of the Music Store and at one time was on consignment at the Bible Book Store;

"Musicologist and historian, Delmer Rogers, longtime member of the staff of the Department of Music at the University of Texas, is of the opinion that the Hauschild Music Company, founded in Victoria, Texas in 1891, was the second oldest institution to commercially publish sheet music in Texas. (Thos. Goggan of Houston being the first.) Also, his extensive research indicates that Hauschild's was the first in Texas to issues music with Spanish titles. About thirty were published, many by talented writers, and sold in large numbers. In addition, probing seems to prove that Hauschilds was the first to publish the efforts of several of the music-loving Germans of the area. Most interesting, too, is that the spritely composition, the Cowboy Rag offered in 1904 possibly was the purcursor of this genre of popular music." taken from "The Cognoscenti Collections";

HISTORICAL NOTE: ""Blame it on the Bossa Nova" is a 1963 hit song was written by Cynthia Weil & Barry Mann which as recorded by Eydie Gormé reached #7 on the US charts in March 1963. The track was produced by Al Kasha who had recently been responsible for the #1 hit "Go Away Little Girl" by Gormé's husband Steve Lawrence. "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" featured backing vocals by The Cookies. Bossa nova is a Brazilian music style which, with its associated dancing forms, became popular in the late 1950s. "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" merges the sensibilities of the Brill Building Sound with the Latin music which Gormé had previously specialized in, as the song describes a romantic relationship inaugurated by a couple dancing to the bossa nova - "the dance of love." "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" was an international hit for Gormé, reaching #1 in Australia, South Africa & Sweden & #2 in Norway. In the UK the single reached #32. Rendered in Spanish by Gormé as "Cúlpale a la bossa nova", the track sold 250,000 units in Spain & Latin America & 100,000 units in Italy. Gormé consequently recorded several Top 40-oriented releases but "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" would be her last Top 40 hit, although partnered with Lawrence as Steve & Eydie she did reach #28 & #35 with respectively "I Want To Stay Here" & "I Can't Stop Talking About You" in 1964. Gormé did reach #43 with Mann-Weil's "I Want You to Meet My Baby" in September 1964; that track's B-side : "Can't Get Over (the Bossa Nova)", written by Gormé & Lawrence with Marilyn Gins, gained enough attention to chart at #87. Gormé subsequently shifted back to the easy listening musical style of her the 1st phase of her career. "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" was also recorded by Cliff Richard on his 1966 album Kinda Latin. A recording by Manuela, with lyrics in German as Schuld war nur der Bossa Nova written by Georg Buschor, was at German Charts for 27 weeks (21 weeks Top 10) during the period 27 April - 2 November 1963, peaking at #1 for five weeks. A recording by Anna-Lena Löfgren, with lyrics in Swedish as Det finns ingenting att hämta written by Stig Andersson, was at Svensktoppen for 11 weeks during the period 14 May - 23 July 1967, peaking at #3. Another recording of the Swedish language version by the dansband Lotta Engbergs in 1997 was on the album "Tolv i topp", & as "B-side" for the 2000 single En liten stund på Jorden. In Québec, the song was recorded in French by the late Margot Lefebvre (1936-1989) as C'est la faute au bossa nova, written by Pierre Nolès. The song has appeared from time to time in television programs, commercials, & films, often for comic effect. For example, in the TV show The West Wing, new White House Assistant Counsel Ainsley Hayes (played by Emily Procter) is dancing joyfully to the Gormé recording, wearing a bathrobe, & drinking a cocktail to celebrate a successful television appearance when she is shocked to see President Jed Bartlet (Martin Sheen) enter her office to meet her for the 1st time. Former San Francisco 49ers head coach George Seifert performs the song Karaoke-style in a Visa commercial that aired during the 1990s. Movie soundtrack appearances for "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" include The Big Picture (1989), Mermaids (1990) & Doubt (2008). "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" is also featured in episode seven of the 1st season of the HBO program Big Love. It is playing on the car stereo when character Albie Grant solicits a male prostitute.";

HISTORICAL NOTE: "Cynthia Weil (born October 18, 1940, New York) is a prominent American songwriter. She is famous for having written many songs together with her husband Barry Mann. Weil was trained as an actress & dancer but soon demonstrated a songwriting ability that led to her collaboration with Barry Mann whom she would marry in August, 1961. Weil became one of the Brill Building songwriters of the 1960s, & one of the most important writers during the emergence of rock & roll. She & her husband went on to create songs for numerous contemporary artists, winning a number of Grammy Awards & Academy Award nominations for their compositions for film. As their Rock & Roll Hall of Fame biography put it, in part: "Mann & Weil ... [works went from] epic ballads (“On Broadway,” “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”) to outright rockers (“Kicks,” “We’ve Gotta Get Out of This Place”) [& they also] placed an emphasis on meaningful lyrics in their songwriting. With Weil writing the words & Mann the music, they came up with a number of songs that addressed such serious subjects as racial & economic divides[,] “Uptown,” ... and the difficult reality of making it in the big city (“On Broadway,” ...). “Only in America” ... tackled segregation & racism, making it rather too controversial for the Drifters, who were the intended artists. “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” ... became an anthem for [the] Vietnam soldier, antiwar protesters, & young people who viewed it as an anthem of greater opportunities." In 1987, she was inducted with her husband, Mann, into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2004, Mann & Weil’s They Wrote That?, a musical revue based on their songs, opened in New York. In it, Mann sang & Weil related stories about the songs & their personal history. Weil & Mann were named among the 2010 recipients of Ahmet Ertegun Award from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. At the ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria, which was telecast on the Fuse TV cable network, songwriter Carole King inducted Mann & Weil & other songwriting colleagues from the 1950s & early 1960s, including Ellie Greenwich (posthumously) & Jeff Barry, Otis Blackwell (posthumously), Mort Shuman, & Jesse Stone (posthumously). "From the bottom of my heart & with the greatest humility," Ms. Weil said in her acceptance. "I thought you guys would never ask." Eric Burdon of The Animals & Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes performed at the ceremony. "A World of Our Own" - Closing theme song from Return to the Blue Lagoon - Surface; "Black Butterfly" - Deniece Williams; "Blame It on the Bossa Nova" – Eydie Gormé; "Christmas Vacation" - Title song for the movie of the same name; "Don't Know Much" – Aaron Neville & Linda Ronstadt (also, earlier, Bill Medley & Bette Midler); "He's Sure the Boy I Love" – The Crystals; "Here You Come Again" – Dolly Parton; "I Just Can't Help Believing" – B. HISTORICAL NOTE: "Barry Mann (born Barry Imberman, 9 February 1939, Brooklyn, New York) is an American songwriter, & part of a rock music songwriting partnership with his wife, Cynthia Weil. Mann & lyricist Cynthia Weil operated a publishing company called Dyad Music. Mann's 1st hit single as a writer was "She Say (Oom Dooby Doom)," which was a top twenty song for The Diamonds in 1959. Mann co-wrote the song with Gerry Goffin. Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil met when they were both staff songwriters for Aldon Music, & were married in 1961. Also in 1961, they wrote & Mann sang a novelty song that made the Top 10 with "Who Put The Bomp", which parodied the nonsense words of the then recently popular doo-wop songs. Mann & Weil also pioneered the socially-conscious side of the Brill Building songbook, with such songs as the Drifters' "Only in America" (originally conceived as a bitter lament before being revamped with Jerry Leiber & Mike Stoller), "Uptown" (a hit for The Crystals), "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place" (a hit for the Animals), "Magic Town" for the Vogues, & "Chico's Girl". As of May 2009, Mann's song catalog lists 635 songs. He has received 56 pop, country, & R&B awards from Broadcast Music Incorporated, & 46 Millionaire Awards for radio performances numbering over one million plays. The song "You've Lost That Loving Feeling", co-written with Weil & Phil Spector, was the most played song of the 20th century with more than fourteen million plays. Mann has composed songs for films, such as the music for the song "Somewhere Out There", which won two 1987 Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year & Best Song Written for a Motion Picture or Television. He also co-wrote the film scores for I Never Sang for My Father & Muppet Treasure Island. He contributed songs to National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation & Oliver & Company. In 1987, Mann & Weil were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Mann & Weil were named among the 2010 recipients of Ahmet Ertegun Award from the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
