Album NotesPersonnel: Andrea Bocelli (tenor); Bryn Terfel (vocals).
Recording information: Teatro Comunale, Florence, Italy (07/1997).
Andrea Bocelli is one of a handful of artists able to perform both popular and classical music with great success and distinction. ARIA-THE OPERA ALBUM features his thoughtful and heartfelt renditions of some of the most popular Romantic tenor arias. It is easy to hear strains of other singers in his voice, such as a young Del Monaco or perhaps Corelli, with whom he studied, paying for his lessons singing in piano bars and night clubs.
Worth noting are "Questa o quella" from Verdi's 'Rigoletto,' where Bocelli easily adopts the suave and lascivious charm of The Duke of Mantua, and "Porquoi me réveiller" from Massenet's 'Werther,' which highlights his command of the French language. With his perfect diction and dramatic style, Andrea Bocelli gives the experienced listener a new alternative to existing recordings and the opera novice an excellent introduction to the tenor repertoire.
