ANTIQUE STERLING SILVER FORKS (2) AND KNIVES (3) CIRCA 1850's
7.8 OUNCES (222 GRAMS) TOTAL WEIGHT
UP FOR AUCTION ARE 2 FORKS AND 3 KNIVES THAT ARE NOT ONLY EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL, BUT OLDER THAN OUR GRANDPARENTS, WELL MAYBE NOT MINE...I PICKED THESE UP AT A YARD SALE A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. I BELIEVE THE SILVER IS SCROLLED IN A VICTORIAN TYPE PATTERN BUT I COULD BE WRONG. ALL 5 PIECES HAVE FRONT & BACK DETAIL, ONLY THE KNIVES ARE STAMPED W & H S (WOOD AND HUGHES SILVERSMITHS). ALL OF THEIR WOOD HANDLES HAVE NOTICEABLE SPLITS BUT THEY ARE ONLY COSMETIC AND DO NOT AFFECT THEIR STRUCTURE. THE KNIVES MEASURE 8 3/4" LONG AND ARE 1" AT THEIR WIDEST POINT. THE FORKS ARE 1 3/4" LONG AND 1" AT THEIR WIDEST POINT. THEIR COMBINED WEIGHT IS 10 OZ. THESE WILL LAST ANOTHER HUNDRED YEARS, I WISH I HAD THE ENTIRE SET FOR MYSELF.
I AM LISTING THESE IN HOPES THAT THESE PIECES WON'T END UP IN THE SCRAP PILE, BUT GO TO SOMEONE WHO WILL ENJOY THEM LIKE I HAVE. HOWEVER, THE WINNING BIDDER WILL OWN THESE HISTORICAL WONDERS OUTRIGHT AND OF COARSE, BE FREE TO DO AS THEY WISH.
