ANTIQUE HAND MADE BOWIE KNIFE

As people came into this country they had to learn to be resourceful so they would use what they had until they used it up then they would often time make something else out of it. One of the things that was in very short supply was metal. Since tools was what they primarily had when the tools were no more good they would often make knives or other weapons from them. What we have here is such an example. This was an old file that at some point was worn out and then turned into a knife. This is a very nice bowie knife that was made from a file. Apparently a very large file as the blade is over 2 inches at one point. It was never taken down to the point that you can not see what it was made from. Whoever made this was quite a craftsman. The blade is almost 10 inches and has a brass bolster connected to a bone handle. The overall length is over 16 inches and as I said the blade is 2 inches wide with a 4 ½ inch bolster. Overall a nice knife. It was found in an old barn in northern Kentucky and apparently the handle has been reattached as there appears to be some type of old glue around the handle. It has a really good weight and feel to it and if you collect knives this would be a great addition to your collection.
