Antique 1930s Sun Rubber Art Deco Streamlined Bus
The Sun Rubber Company made toys and dolls from the 1919's to 1950's in Barberton, Ohio USA. The company entered into the rubber toy car business in 1934 with a patent for a 1934 DeSoto Airflow
While most toy car manufacturers focused on making their toys realistic miniatures of the automobiles and trucks of the day, the Sun Rubber Company took a long term view designing its toys. Cars and trucks were meant to defy obsolescence and hold children’s interest year after year. When they came out of the press, the toys were a mottled beige or solid black. Colors were added by dipping, spraying and hand painting, and the finishes were very durable
This hard rubber Sun Rubber vehicle is their art deco streamlined bus that has its original paint and free moving tires, a couple of the tires still have the original paint splotches from when it was originally dipped, the paint has spots of crackling and chipping and the bus has a couple of small dings – see pictures for condition
