ANTIQUE 1917 RAILROAD LUGGAGE WAGON - NEWPORT, PA - (0912-H)

We purchased this old antique railroad hauler wagon about 3 years ago and it's been displayed in our yard ever since. We were told that this was the old PRR railroad freight or luggage wagon from the railway yard in Newport, PA. The Newport train station has been closed for many many years now, even though the building is still here. I do have an old postcard which shows the old train station when it was operating and there is an old wagon also pictured which looks similar to this one. I can't say if this was that particular wagon, I can only tell you what we were told when we bought it. It doesn't have any PRR markings that we can see on it, but it does have a patent date. It reads, "PAT D NOV 20 1917" and above that is another mark which I cannot make out, but the first letter looks like it could be a "P". It would make sense for it to be a PRR item since the Pennsylvania Railroad was operating at the time this old wagon was made.

This original primitive early 1900's antique wagon is made of steel and the tires are made of steel and wood with rubber. The rubber is age cracked but is still intact. The wagon rolls pretty well, particularly considering it's weight and age, but it does need some restoration if it were to be used. Some of the wood on the wheels is deteriorating from age - again, you can see this in the photos. There are some small spots of rust, but they are minimal as you can see in the pictures. Overall, it's in great shape.

This would make a great display piece for advertising. It's truly a very unique treasure from the past - what a great piece of history and a rare find!

The bed measures 10 feet long and 37 inches wide. The wagon's height is 31 inches from the ground to the top of the steel on the bed itself. The wheels measure 30 inches across the center and 30 inches high from the ground to the top of each wheel. The overall length of the wagon with the tongue is 14 feet 7 inches from the back end of the wagon to the tip of the tongue. These measurements are rounded to the nearest inch, so they may not be "exact".
