A Unique Sculpted Table Offered By The Artist A. Dale Bateman
As a struggling artist in the 1980's I paid the bills as a marble fabricator in a commercial stone shop in Dallas Texas, where I had an opportunity to acquire a small amount of Italian White Statuary marble, left over from a large hotel contract the we had recently completed.
During that project I fell in love with the beautiful qualities of this gleaming white stone the Italian master sculptors had used to create their great works of the past 2500 years and among the pieces I sculpted from that lucky acquisition was this table. The most significant and attractive piece I created during that phase of my life. The table was exhibited on several occasions, once at a Texas Sculptors Association show and once at a gallery showing. The third time the piece was seen in public was when it was borrowed by a designer for her booth at the annual World Trade Show in Dallas around 1987. Other than that the table has remained a prized center piece in my home.
Fast forward to today, and I find that my values have changed and I am looking to my legacy. The time has come to offer this one of a kind work of art to someone who will embrace it's beauty and give it a new life and a new audience. It is my sincere desire that someone will make this a family heirloom and give the table a life beyond my passing. I do not have children and my family seems to not appreciate this kind of high style. So, if you are interested in the table contact me and lets work out a way for it to survive for many generations to come.
The pedestal is 26" x 21" x 17" tall and the glass top is 42" Diameter x 3/8" thick black safety glass. Note; The vine like pattern was etched by me and is original to the table. And, the truth be told, I wish I had picked a clear glass even though clear safety glass has a slight green tent. Still, the dark glass does make a nice contrast.? Well, anyway, you could put any type of glass you wish on it. I am willing to work with you to that end.
The next issue is shipping. The table and glass are heavy, but that is not the problem. The problem is the table is delicate and could be broken if not handled properly. Packing and picking the best transport will be easy if you are within a few hundred miles of Nashville Tennessee because I might deliver it myself. But if you are say in N.Y. or L.A. then shipping could cost hundreds of dollars. Keep this in mind when you buy the table.
In closing, this is a beautiful table and a one of a kind work of art. I can only speculate about where the inspiration came from for the style of this piece. I am, after all, a southern boy by nature and have tented to prefer more rustic pursuits. Maybe the inspiration is from a previous life? Please contact me via email if you have questions.
