Attending court on another matter, Garry Dean watched a young man appear for indictment - five weeks after his arrest! - and be denied reaonable bail, then assigned a professional shyster as defense counsel.

Suddenly, a young lady, weeping quietly, stood up, veered down the aisle, and slowly collapsed. Garry caught her before she hit the floor. This pathetic incident aroused his interest in the Leo Parrish case and the mysterious death of David Muriel on lonely Frog Lane.

The girl's story convinced Garry that young Parrish was innocent. Taking on a non-paying client, he begins to investigate and finds a much more complicated case than he imagined.

First paperback printing, 1952. Cover is clean, with edge and corner wear. Spine is rubbed along right edge, and has a split in lower right corner. Pages are lightly browned. Binding is tight, very slightly canted.
