Rafael Nadal joined the ranks of the all-time greats of tennis.
Nadal defeated Novak Djokovic to win the US Open and complete his set of Grand Slam titles.
Any doubt of whether Novak had recovered from his marathon semifinal match against Federer,
was erased by the first point in the match where both players hit a number of amazing shots.
Djokovic played well, but Nadal hit some tremendous backhand passing shots from way behind the baseline that left Novak stunned.
Rafael Nadal's improved serve was hitting 135mph and also hitting unreachable angles that Djokovic struggled to return from the ad side all match.
Djokovic fought the entire match and hit some stunning inside out forehand winners that kept the match close for 3hours and 45minutes.
A gallant effort by the Serb, but in the end, Rafa was not to be denied the title.
