Up for auction is an aluminum coin that came in a General Mills Wheaties box, celebrating the 1996 womens gymnastics olympic team gold medal in gymnastics after heavy competition in Atlanta, Georgia.
One side shows a woman with one leg up and paralel to her other leg on the ground (maybe floor or Balance Beam), with the words "Gymnastics" and "Atlanta 1996" around the outside of the coin, with 3 stars on one side and the olympic torch and the words "Atlanta 1996" underneath the torch on the other.
The other side shows the five interlinked rings, which is the International Olympic Committees symbol of the olympic games, and block letters "USA" just above. Also, the top reads "1996 US Olympic Team" with the bottom advertising "General Mills Proud Sponser". There is another mark under the five rings "36 USC 380", which is the law that allows General Mills to show the interlocking rings and be a sponser, as long as they have permission.
This is a nice piece of sports history, which represents the first USA team gold medal on US soil for the womans gymnastics team.
