1976 Kentucky Derby Glass
102nd Running
5 1/4 inch tall glass is in excellent condition with mint graphics on a frosted background
Back of the glass lists the previous 101 Kentucky Derby Winners and the years with special markings for the Triple Crown Winners
The 1976 Kentucky Derby Winner was Bold Forbes and the jockey was Angel Cordero in a time of 2:01 3/5.
Bold Forbes went on to place third in the Preakness Stakes, after running the fastest half mile ever run in the Preakness against Honest Pleasure. It was discovered after the race that Bold Forbes had injured his left hind heel very badly during the race and had to 1/4 of his hoof removed
In the Belmont Stakes, Bold Forbes made a comeback and won by a neck
He raced only one more time after that, during which he injured his leg and finished third, it was at this point the grandson of Bold Ruler was retired to stud
Bold Forbes finished his racing career with 13 wins and never placied worse than third in his 18 races
He was voted 3 Year Old of the Year
At stud he was syndicated for $5.2 million dollars where he sired 304 winners including 30 stakes winners
Bold Forbes was retired from stud duty in 1991 and was a resident of the Hall Of Champions until he was euthanized on August 9, 2000 at the age of 27, due to renal failure and complications from gastroenteritis. He is buried at the Hall Of Champions in Kentucky
