Here is a hard cover book
entitled "Mischief in the Mountains", edited by Walter R. Hard, Jr. and
Janet C. Greene. Illustrated by Jane Clark Brown. Published by Vermont
Life Magazine of Montpelier, VT. Copyright 1970. This is the second
edition, 1971.
The book tells 13 incredible
tales of mystery, criminality, hardship and humor of the people of
Vermont. You will read of Clarence Adams of Chester, a burglar ... and
Stephen Boorn at Manchester's jail in 1819 ... and Widow Hannah Ward who
got married NAKED in Newfane in 1789. Lots more odd things to read
about!
The book measures 5 3/4" x 9
1/8". It has 174 pages. The book is in wonderful condition, being just
like new. The dust jacket didn't fare as well, being ripped and faded on
the spine. No writing in it, no folded corners, no odor.
This would make a nice addition to any Vermonter's library. You may find one of your ancestors in it!
